These vibrant quilt-like constructions beautifully bridge two distinct contemporary craft media – wood and fiber. In the tradition of the quilting arts, I create colorful sculptures using traditional and contemporary patterning. These wood quilts explore individual and environmental concerns, drawing inspiration from feminism and traditional women's arts like needlework, weaving, and quilting. By repurposing discarded materials, I seek to uncover traces of personal histories, identity, and humanity. These materials, originating from homes destroyed by Hurricane Sandy, including my own home, have included into discarded domestic items. Through my work, I aim to challenge viewers to contemplate notions of home, safety, and the environmental impact of our changing climate. Channeling past generations of quilters, I repurpose discarded remnants that are deeply embedded with meaning and transforming the detritus into a fully realized art form.
