Artist Statement:
Empty and ravaged by insects, fire, disease, and weather, these discarded, decaying tree trunks—already transformed from their original state—were given a second life. For me, they have become metaphors for my own mortality. This wood embodies the ephemeral, serving as a symbolic exploration of time's passage and our relationship to the universe. There is an awakening, a recognition that all living things undergo transformation, both internally and externally. The most essential quality in the materials I choose is their tactile nature. What is real is what we can touch, a connection to the natural world that feels increasingly fragile in our industrial and technological age. These sculptures can be seen at the Abington Sculpture Park in Jenkintown, PA.
