Artist Statement:
After the trauma of Hurricane Sandy, I watched as my neighborhood of little bungalows was replaced by modern condos and unfamiliar faces. It no longer felt like home, so I moved to Boston. Unpacking in my new studio, I looked at the scraps I had collected from destroyed homes after the hurricane. Spread across my workbench, these small, unassuming pieces brought me to tears. They seemed so fragile and insignificant, yet I couldn’t bring myself to discard them—they still held memories. I began stacking and gluing them, transforming these Sandy wood scraps into sculptures reminiscent of buildings, preserving their history in a new form.
